this summer with fencing Master laszlo szepesi, PhD.

Join us for a very special training opportunity August 21-26 with internationally renowned coach Laszlo Szepesi!

Maestro Szepesi has been coaching since 1970. In his career, he has been the National Coach of French Saber, turning the program into the powerhouse it was in the 1980s & 90s winning 8 Olympic & World Championship medals from 1982-1993. More recently he was the National Saber Coach of Hungary (2008-2010) and China (2010-2012). Currently, his students have medaled in Cadet & Junior at the European Championships. When not coaching, he teaches the next generation of coaches at the Hungarian University of Physical Education where he has held a position since 1993, receiving his PhD in 2004.

Maestro Szepesi will lead the camp, including a portion for coaches wanting to improve their lesson methodology and pedagogy. Several topics will be explored in the context of both group and individual lessons including defense against compound attacks; attacks with beats; and using preparations to set up attack and defense. For the more advanced coaches, he will also discuss setting up training plans for competitive fencers how to get your athletes in top form for the coming season.

He will be accompanied by 8 of his athletes from Karpati Rudolf Vivoklub, all with Cadet & Junior experience at either the European Circuit or Junior World Cups. Notably, Greta Koos has 2 Cadet medals, an individual Bronze and Team Gold from the European Championships.

Ayach Bounachada is the current Head Coach and Technical Director of Manitoba Fencing and the coach of several members of the Canadian Junior Saber & Foil team. He has coached 2 Olympians on 2 continents and his athletes have finished Top 8 at Junior World Championships several times. He will be assisting with the coaching portion of the camp as his position in Manitoba requires him to be able to develop coaches.

Fernando Medina is a Spanish Coach from Madrid who has competed in 3 Olympic Games and won an Individual Bronze Medal in the 1998 World Championships. His athletes have represented Spain at Junior and Senior World Championships. He is currently the Head Coach at Club Esgrima Barajas.
