Clinton Smith, Head Coach:

As head coach, Clint is responsible for spearheading lesson plans, training lessons and the overall direction of the club.  However, he takes a special interest in the young adult age group ensuring that they are trained not only as fencers, but as individuals.  His focus is to prepare the kids for the commitment, dedication and hard work that their fencing endeavors will require, but he makes it a point to have these lessons act as tools the children can use in school and throughout their lives. Clint brings more than 20 years of training, competition and coaching experience to these programs and works with all the students, (from the newest and youngest, to those participating in National Competitions) to ensure that each student, regardless of their age and skill lever, gets the very best from the fencing program.

He is a certified coach by the US Fencing Coaching Association, attaining level 3 (of 4 total levels) in both Foil and Saber. In June of 2016, he was the first American Fencer to graduate from the Hungarian University of Physical Education's International Coaching Course and finished the semester-long course as co-validectorian.

Theresa Stoodley, Assistant Coach:

Theresa was fortunate enough to attend one of the few high schools in Illinois that had a fencing team, which she ultimately joined in 2006. She continued her fencing education through college with the Bradley University fencing club, eventually becoming its president and later, its coach. Theresa has been with Lincoln Square since 2009, finishing 9th in that year's Division 2 Nationals in Grapevine, TX. Theresa completed the 2013-14 season's Regional Circuit and ranked in the Top 10 on USA Fencing's Regional points list.

Theresa earned her Moniteur coaching certification (level 2 of 4) in February 2015 and teaches most of the Youth classes. Her playfulness, dedication and love for the sport is contagious. She enjoys watching her students learn and grow, which makes her a favorite among both the kids and their parents.  Theresa’s teaching comes from the heart.  She can talk to and teach kids in a language they understand and respect. Her teaching formula is fun.  Theresa’s mission is one where all kids get equal time and everyone has a good time, but don’t that fool you, behind all the giggles and workouts, her students are learning valuable fencing and social skills.
